Coaching by surfers, for surfers.
At ESSA, our goal is simple: to help every surfer reach their individual potential and achieve their personal goals. With over 20 years of elite coaching experience paired with a background in professional surfing, we have the knowledge and tools to make that happen.
We offer local morning sessions before school or work, as well as tailored camps and clinics designed to take you beyond the crowded eastern suburbs breaks. By travelling to carefully selected locations, we access higher quality waves with fewer people and create more opportunities to fast track your progression. Group sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure a personalised, high quality coaching experience.

BLAKE THORNTON

From a young age I was drawn to the ocean and loved being immersed in it. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world surfing and competing at the highest level. I am a former world championship tour surfer and have been coaching since 2001.

I like to bring a mix of first hand knowledge along with the skillset of a nationally recognised level 2 high performance surf coach to my sessions. I’ve worked with surfers of all abilities from world champions to corporate professionals, all with their respective goals.
