WHO WE ARE
Coaching by surfers for surfers. Our goal at ESSA is quite simple, we aim to help all surfers reach their respective individual potential and goals. With over 20 years of elite coaching experience between us, we know we have the tools to make this happen. For our sessions, we escape the grind of the eastern suburbs crowds and look for waves in locations a little out of Sydney, with better wave quality and more opportunities for you to fast track your surfing to a higher level. Group sizes are kept tight to ensure a personal touch and experience.
BLAKE THORNTON
From a young age I was drawn to the ocean and loved being immersed in it. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world surfing and competing at the highest level. I am a former world championship tour surfer and have been coaching since 2001.
I like to bring a mix of first hand knowledge along with the skillset of a nationally recognised level 2 high performance surf coach to my sessions. I’ve worked with surfers of all abilities from world champions to corporate professionals, all with their respective goals.

MONTY TAIT
Surfing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has given me many opportunities in life. I have travelled the world competing on the qualifying series and due to this I have been fortunate to work with different coaches and learn a lot from them.

I am a former state champion and Australian title runner up. I was also selected to coach the Chinese olympic surf team.
​
I will always be a passionate surfer but as I mature I am finding just as much satisfaction in helping other surf to their optimal levels much the same as I do.
